5 Kitchen Gadgets You Didn't Know You Needed, But I Do

Updated: Jan 29

Let me take you on a journey of my 5 favorite kitchen gadgets that I didn't know I needed, until I did. Why 5 and not 10? Why not? Every kitchen has its essentials: a good knife, cutting board, pots, and pans. But sometimes, the right gadget can transform your cooking experience, making tasks easier, faster, or just more enjoyable. You might not realize you need these tools until you try them. Here are five kitchen gadgets that many people didn’t think they needed—until they did.

1. Spiralizer

While on my on again/off again journey in a keto lifestyle, I was looking for a way to have a pasta without the carbs. That is when I stumbled on my first spiralizer. My first buy was a handheld version, like this one: https://amzn.to/3ZBg1Rb This version allows you to make thin or thick noodles. This remains a staple in my gadget drawer. In my searching for new and exciting things to do with a zoodle, (who doesn't love a zoodle?) I stumbled upon a newer version that I just had to try. https://amzn.to/49YSBdr This version comes with additional blades for added shapes. Now I was able to make the staples, like spaghetti, but also introduced a whole new array of shapes and fruits and vegetables. Potato chips anyone? Apple ribbons for your fancy tarte tatin? No problem, got it covered.

2. Vegetable Chopper

Keeping on the vegetable trend, the next item I didn't know I needed, until I did, is the vegetable chopper. Anyone else watch cooking competitions and hear the judges talking about uneven cuts? Those contestants totally need one of these. These are the sous chef of your dreams. They cut, chop, dice, all the cooking terms with ease. The best part? It sits on a container that catches/holds all your perfect dices. Did I mention the cheese grater? Total time (and finger tip iykyk) saver. https://amzn.to/3LYh8Hw

3. Digital Scale

During my "off again" keto journey, I started making homemade bread and pasta. Hear me out, while I do go back and forth reducing my carb intake, I can't resist a pastry, pasta, or bread. Is there anything better? So my thought process was, I can make them and control what ingredients I use; therefore, they are better for me and my family. Right? Little did I know how much better these things would taste (or the requests I would be receiving from not only my family but friends) or how therapeutic baking breads and making pasta can be. I've learned English muffins, sandwich bread, hamburger rolls, fresh pasta, extruded pasta, raviolis, wow, so many gadgets to share with you, but this is about the digital scale. What helped me perfect these items was weighing my ingredients opposed to measuring them. Who knew? The digital scale is an item I didn't know I needed, until I did. Game changer. https://amzn.to/49Zw7Zw

4. Oil Sprayer/Pourer

I'm sure you've seen the reports that aerosol cooking sprays may contain propellants that can be bad for you. Continuing my mission to make healthier food for myself and my family, I stumbled on the oil sprayer/pourer. This is such a simple gadget that does multiple things. It replaces the cooking spray in the cabinet, it replaces the oil bottle on the counter, it removes any potential harmful ingredients, and saves you money (you're only buying your oil of choice). This really is a favorite find of mine https://amzn.to/4qMkZXn

5. Pasta Strainer

Pasta Strainer? For real? For real. This particular strainer clips onto the pot making the whole process so much easier and keeping the contents from falling out of the pot into what sometimes can be a questionable sink. I stumbled on this strainer during a late night retail therapy session, added to cart, and forgot about it. There it sat, or so I thought. When an unexpected item arrived with my next delivery, I realized things do happen for a reason, and I was meant to have this. It is space saving, noodle saving, and so easy to use. https://amzn.to/3NSOGat

There are so many other kitchen gadget, time savor, "this was a great purchase at 2am" items that I love and can't wait to tell you about!!
